ALPS: Authenticating Live Peer-to-Peer Streams
نویسندگان
چکیده
Live streaming is one among many applications where data is continuously created and has to be quickly distributed among a large number of users. The peer-to-peer paradigm is thereby attracting interest with the prospect of overcoming scalability issues of more centralized approaches. Since data blocks travel along multiple (possibly malicious) peers, authenticating the origin of blocks becomes of prime importance to guarantee safety and reliability. The asymmetry of a single source and an arbitrary number of untrusted receivers requires the use of digital signatures and public key cryptography in general. This paper proposes a new signature scheme for broadcast authentication tailored towards peer-to-peer systems to overcome limitations of traditional approaches based on signature schemes like RSA and DSA, most notably in terms of delays, signature size, and computational complexity. It may further be of practical interest for other real-time application such as massive multiplayer peer-topeer gaming.

Network Architectures for Live Peer-to-Peer Media Streaming
Peer-to-Peer (P2P) media streaming networks, motivated by the huge success of P2P file downloading networks, have recently attracted a lot of research interest. However, it is challenging to design P2P media streaming networks because of the stringent time constraints on the delivered media streams, which require more efficient and resilient overlay architectures. In this paper, we focus on liv...
متن کاملLive Peer-to-peer Streaming with Scalable Video Coding and Network Coding
Providing high-quality streaming over peer-to-peer (P2P) systems faces multiple challenges such as limited upload capacity of peers and high heterogeneity of receivers in terms of download bandwidth and screen resolutions. In this thesis, we present the design of a P2P live streaming system that uses scalable video coding (SVC) as well as network coding. The proposed design enables flexible cus...
متن کاملPlayout Adaptation and Pull-Push Hybrid Scheduler in Live Peer-to-Peer Streaming
Together with the wide spread of network devices with broadband access, streaming has become more and more popular as the favorite mechanism for broadcasting real-time events to a large number of users. The traditional approaches to live streaming include IP multicast and client-server based streaming. Of them, IP multicast is not globally deployed while client-server streaming implies expensiv...
متن کاملPeer-to-Peer Live Streaming with MDC
We consider a peer-to-peer (P2P) live streaming network formed by unreliable nodes. The video is encoded into k MDC (Multiple-Description Coded) and t FEC (Forward Error Correction) streams. To achieve stream continuity notwithstanding node failures, the k + t streams are pushed to the nodes in parent-disjoint spanning trees. The challenge is how to construct these trees minimizing the worst-ca...
متن کاملTime-Shifted Streaming in a Tree-Based Peer-to-Peer System
We propose a peer-to-peer (P2P) streaming system that multicasts live video as well as provides the live video as Video-on-Demand (VoD) during the live session. The proposed system allows users to individually pause and resume a live video stream, and to view video that was streamed before the particular user joined the session. Since live video content naturally results in many users watching ...
